Mario Testino’s decade’s old art and photography collection are about to go up for sale.
And, if estimates are spot on, it’ll all go for around 13 million US. His Shake It Up series, to be sold at London’s Sotheby’s, is made up of 330 original works which include the likes of Richard Prince, Wolfgang Tillmans, and Adriana Varejão. He first began to acquire the collection in the 1980s and is selling a large portion of his carefully curated works to fund the Museo Mario Testino (MATE), which he established in his hometown of Lima, Peru, back in 2012.
One of the highest valued pieces in the collection belongs to Brazilian multimedia artist Adriana Varejão, whose Blue Sauna painting is expected to go for up to £600,000. The work is from the renowned series Saunas and Baths, which was birthed from a chance encounter with a book in Portugal that contained a photograph of a tiled interior in Macau.
